3D render of one of the chosen shapes in Google Sketchup. Thankfully the shape wasn't too complex to create and it definitely seems like something that I can manipulate and possibly multiply in order to create something bigger.  The images above explain the reason for lines on the exterior of the shape, they were originally intended to suggest the railing on what was initially a segment of a staircase. However, when i choose to remove those sections from the original shape it presented me with something very interesting. The only problem was how could I use it? The structure here is simply a box with a tessellation of the shape on the front exterior, it is nothing too complex and frankly I could never settle for something like this for a final model. Also the issue with the shape on the front is that it isn't level, it has a diagonal slope and would therefore prove useless for domestic use. Currently, in my search for new ideas, I have begun to pursue a technique I learned during the early weeks of this course. By cropping and isolating certain parts of images and photographs it will enable me to highlight certain details that I find particularly interesting. For this I focused on shapes and forms that could potentially use to create structures. Drawing and tracing them out helped me to better understand the shape and also allow me to use that shape for manipulation and development I found the process of selecting details a great way of finding new and interesting shapes to work with, the images I selected were a variation of existing apartment blocks. These included images of the Swiss Cottage estate in London, the Barbican Center and also an apartment block out in Ukraine that I found online whilst searching for images to use.  I've noticed a bit of a trend within the apartment blocks I have been looking at and that is that they are ...

         Personally, comparing my 'cheap boxes' experiments with the Favelas of Rio De Janeiro and the 'Walled City' of Kowloon, Hong Kong was one of my best decisions. I felt that because they were aesthetically very similar, cheap materials, disorderly configuration and purpose built, it gave me solid ground for improvement. It also gave me a structure that sort of linked back to my original predicament.  Social housing has been in demand for years and years and the main issue is that there isn't the capacity to house so many people in an area as a small as London, this is also considering that most of the so-called 'desirable' spaces have been sold to the highest bidder. This comparison to some of the most densely populated areas in the world gave me the foundation for my structure.
