Refining the shape and using multiplication to my advantage really gave me and edge. It allowed me to really develop my idea into something more complex. The one simple ring-shape just wasn't enough for it to speak for itself. After spending a while orientating the shape and playing around with different combinations I reached this conclusion. The rotation of the shape and the interlocking nature gave it a very interesting pattern on the inside.       I think my desire to make the model into something useful may have gotten in the way. The repetition of the shape created a tunnel-like form, the interior of the 'tunnel' was incredibly intricate and definitely interesting. My vision, at the time, was to have it as a tunnel or a walkway but even despite wanting to do that I just couldn't see it being a feasible idea. My object for the Three R's project was a Potty. Upon receiving my object I was a little nervous as the shape of the thing isn't something you can adapt and play with. I spent a long time trying to figure it out and play with the silhouette of the shape to see if I could create something new but I didn't manage to find anything new. I needed a different approach. I used my experience from the 'Fixtures & Fittings' project and chose an element from the object to focus on. In this case it was the shape of the bowl. This technique is definitely something I need to use more as it really works at making you look at the finer details.  I find this shape very intriguing. My first thoughts are some sort of walkway or doorway. The part at the bottom almost resembles some sort of ramp, that could be developed into some stairs that take your through or from the circular doorway. Design My ideas for the space were to simply utilise the space, give it a use. In order for me to do that I wanted to use as much of the space as I could without making it too cluttered.  The shelf is something basic but functional. It can hold records for the wall of record players opposite, it can hold books and magasines for the students occupying the space. It isn't a revolutionary idea but then again there isn't much space to work with so you have to make do with what you have. It also offers something fairly pleasing to look at. Most of the walls in the building are bare, some containing graphics with directions to specific rooms in the building. There aren't many dynamic elements to the decor of Ravensbourne. Hopefully this will give it something new.  Presentation Sheets

Measuring Ravensbourne Images of our space within the building: We, as a group, chose this space because it had a fair bit of space about it, it wasn't too complicated and because the space itself was completely unused by staff and students.  The first and most important task of taking measurements went really well. Our group were very determined to do well so we worked together really well. Our measurements were accurate, often times repeating our measurements to test our accuracy. We spent a good hour or so recording measurements from different aspects of the space.  Plan Drawing Our first accurate plan drawing was done with a 1:25 scale. This allowed us to realise a model that would be a decent enough size to work with. We were encouraged to choose either a scale out of 1:25/50/100. So far I had only created something in 3D using actual materials, I found it vital to also create a digital render using 3D software.  The range of images above is a representation of my proposed bridge. It was very tricky to create using the software. I would say I am very literate in my use of Google Sketchup but i genuinely struggled with this one because there were a lot of vertical elements that I just wasn't used to creating.
