Pathway Week 12: Beyond the fundamental continued & Presentation Sheets

The idea for my structure in this project is to combine both of these things. Above is an example of both a Helical Ramp, commonly used in a multi-storey car park complex, and a Bobsleigh from the Olympic sport of Bobsledding.  I think my idea has real potential, it is definitely my most whacky idea so far. The great thing about this is that I have received two very random criteria and I am managing to make something out of it.  Google SketchUp Models: This is an prototype of what my helical ramp would look like. This was mad in sketchup and was incredibly challenging. I feel like each project I seem to make a harder model in Google Sketchup. It was challenging and there are some errors here and there but I feel it does well to communicate exactly what I want. It is a helical ramp and around the outside is a wall. The wall is intended to keep the car from falling off the edge which i think is fair. We don't want any deaths on the debut.  Drawing of

The title for my project is absurd. An ice rink for a car park seems like two things that should never be mixed. These are a few examples of Ice rinks: Examples of Car parks: In order for me to get my head around this all and try and get some ideas down I needed to make a mindmap. This mindmap is to see what words link or relate to the words 'Ice Rink' and 'Car Park'. I did this to simplify things and possibly find something that includes both of the words.  What I discovered was a thing called 'Black Ice'. Black ice is a thing commonly found on roads, which was brilliant. It is a type of ice that is almost transparent, giving if the black colour because of the road beneath it. It is of course very slippery. That ties in both the use of Ice on a surface and The use of a vehicle and a road, things that are fundamental to a car park. This is my site: The site itself is a pretty good space to work with, it is open and fairly

These are some floorplan suggestions I have come up with The thing with my cabin is trying to decide what to include and whether to take the plunge and do something complex or stick to the simple shit. The floor-plan on the right is both the simplest idea and the best idea, in my eyes. It makes sense to have walls joining each of the segments at the corners, it also offers a lot of space and also doesn't leave any spaces unused or wasted. This is the floor-plan I am going with, it offers the owner a large bedroom with their own on-suite bathroom and walk-in wardrobe, a really large lounge/kitchen area with a toilet in the back and the most significant addition to the idea of a cabin is the patio. The patio offers a lot of possibilities in terms of leisure, you could add a pool or a hot-tub if you so wanted.  Models in Google Sketchup.  3D Floor-plan from above. This image below shows my calculations. I was calculating at what scale I was going

Pathway Week 9: Individualisation Project

INDIVIDUALISATION My clients information was pretty challenging to work with. In order to get somewhere I felt I had to change some of the keywords. I didn't want to go completely out of my way to change what words I had to work with so i used synonyms. One word I got particularly caught up on was the word 'metal'. After adding some synonyms and related words I came across the term 'malleable'. Malleable was a relief to find because I felt I could be much more experimental with my project.  Having said that, These are my responses to the term 'malleable'. I felt that curved paper folding would be a great way, both time and cost wise, of exploring the word malleable. These experiments came out much better than I had expected. Having researched techniques for paper folding I had seen a fair few examples which were genuinely impressive.  This is definitely my most successful experiment. My project was all about building

Continuing my research into structures with homing-the-homeless intentions I am looking into anti homeless spikes that are used as a deterrent for rough sleepers. They are usually scattered around commercial properties to ensure people do no loiter and use their land for refuge. Morally, I think its wrong. These types of structures are commonly referred to as defensive architecture, hostile architecture and defensive urban architecture. I think what is most interesting about the is their shape, some of them are particularly dangerous and others not so much.  It may be possible to use their shape as a starting point for my design.  I believe the best way to tackle this is to contradict what commercial companies are enforcing. These spikes outside of their buildings are ugly and inhumane to say the least. They are suggesting that they won't even permit people around the outside of their building let alone inside it, personally I think they send a horrible messa
